Florida man charged with sex crimes involving 13-year-old girl

Sex crimes that involve minor children are one of the most serious kinds of criminal behavior. Police generally accord such accusations a very high priority. A south Florida man is facing such charges for sex crimes involving a 13-year-old girl.

According to the police, the girl told them that the man is suspected of holding her against her will in a small apartment for five days and making her available for sex with men who were willing to pay money. The defendant, another man and a woman also lived in the apartment where the sex crimes allegedly occurred. The girl escaped, and witnesses said that they saw the suspect during the escape episode. The witness is said to have positively identified the defendant to police.

The alleged victim is said by police to have identified the defendant while looking at a lineup of photographs. She said that the defendant used the nickname "Junior." The defendant is being held without bond pending a preliminary hearing. He has been charged with kidnapping, human trafficking and two counts of lewd or lascivious battery. The judge who ordered his confinement also ordered him not to contact the child or her family and to remain at least one mile from their home.

The charges faced by the defendant in this case are especially serious. If convicted, he could face a lengthy period of incarceration, a substantial fine and other post-conviction limits on his freedom. Anyone facing similar charges may wish to seek the advice of an experienced criminal defense attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can provide a helpful evaluation of the evidence and law in the case, suggest useful defense strategies and assist in negotiating a favorable plea agreement.
